Run it on the back of a float line for just enough buoyancy to keep the end on the surface and provide visibility. All while keeping the ability to slip effortlessly through the kelp without a snag. Also ideal for those times when a large float isn't needed, kelp or not.

Snake Float

If you will only use a float in the seaweed, this helps you swim through it with a lot more confidence. I did get tangled once in thick kelp which was a pain to get out of. If the kelp is not super thick this could come in handy, If very thick, I might go for a reel since trying to swim through thick kelp with a float line limits how far you want to go.
